Kanier - ฃะเนียร

Why Kanier?

"Kanier" is a local dialect word derived from Khmer, meaning "friends." It's a local term found in Buriram, Surin, and Sisaket provinces. We want Kanier to convey friendship, fun, harmony, the essence of Southern Isaan culture, and the strong friendship and pride we feel in being born and raised in Buriram.

Sato: Original (Alc. 6)

This rice wine highlights the flavor of Buriram jasmine rice. It uses Buriram jasmine rice, renowned for its rich aroma and flavor, considered the best jasmine rice growing region in Thailand. The resulting taste is a fragrant blend of rice aroma, combined with a smooth and mellow texture, followed by a hint of sweetness.

About

“Kanier” originated from a group of friends who were born and raised together in Buriram Province. They were determined to elevate the local beverage of Buriram, a familiar tradition, especially during the post-rice harvest season. In this time, everyone in the village shares their homemade rice wine, a celebratory drink enjoyed from the end of the harvest season all the way to the New Year. While each household uses different ingredients for fermentation, the core process remains the same – a traditional wisdom that is in danger of disappearing with the elderly in the village.

We have adapted the traditional Buriram rice wine to make it more accessible to the younger generation by using jasmine rice instead of glutinous rice. This results in a milder, more delicate aroma while maintaining the traditional fermentation process. The main ingredient is jasmine rice from the Ban Butawong community in Buriram province, which is fermented with various other ingredients to add variety to the flavors, such as puffed rice, pandan leaves, and purple sweet potato. Each ingredient contributes a distinct character to the drink.
